DEVOTE YOURSELF TO AN GIANG COUNTRYSIDE PAINTING
The gentle and charming beauty of An Giang attracts people when they come here. Let’s admire the wonderful frame of An Giang through the eyes of a backpacker.
As a part of Long Xuyen Quadrangle, An Giang is annual obviously one of the western provinces where greatly influenced by flooding. Typical western land also contains within itself a unique culture of Oc Eo, is the basic to learn about the Funan kingdom which had been brilliant in the past.
I went to An Giang on the rainy days, because of enthusiastic and sincere invitation from friends, because of beautiful photos of harvest season fields, and because of the sweet seductive aroma of palmyra, etc. And An Giang appears, simple, vibrant and passionate, than what I expected.
The first destination is Ta Pa field (away from Tri Ton town about 1km). Looking from above, Ta Pa as an untouched green carpet of tender rice, scattered adorning with towering palm tops. The moment we arrive, the harvest season in Ta Pa was over, and the people here also transplanted new crop.
In An Giang province in particular and the West in general have a quite distinctive routine of rice cultivation, is also seen as a unique culture of rice farming for a long time. It’s “lam ruong van cong” practice, means every time plowing, people often gather together do all these fields to other fields. Because Khmer farmers still hold such practice, but the fields in Ta Pa bring a strange tint. Close to the harvest season, the fields will turn into many dazzling arrays of colors: silky blue, pale yellow, bright yellow, dark yellow, etc. From the high view, although the Ta Pa field is not smooth and more colorful, it captivates wandering visitors, especially those who love to see life through the eye of camera. Ta Pa mountain, a granite one has been massively and thoroughly exploited so a part of this mountain became jagged with different unique shapes.
The countryside painting will be less happy and vivid if it does not have the truthful image of An Giang people. With more than 2.2 million people, An Giang is the most populous province in Mekong Delta, which accounted for 3.9% Khmer people, focused primary in Tinh Bien and Tri Ton districts.
The next destination is Soai So lake, the capacity is about 400.000m3 of water. It located quietly under To mountain, surrounded by green trees, forming a rare charming space. Besides serving tourism, this 5ha wide lake is also a source of domestic water for people around here. The uniqueness of Soai So lake not only is the quiet space between mountain and forest, it also is palmyra growing in the lake.
If coming to Chau Doc, please do not miss the characteristic fish noodle, unlike other places. And stop at street vendor in Tri Ton to enjoy “banh canh Vinh Trung” with rich flavor, you can also try a little scented “lap bo”. Yummy!
