MAI CHAU - A BEAUTIFUL TRAVEL DESTINATION
Mai Chau is beautiful mountainous area located in Hoa Binh - 140km south west of Hanoi. Mai Chau town itself is unappealing, but outside rice fields rolls out, speckled by small ethnic Thai villages where visitors experience homestay on the traditional stilt houses. It’s an enchanting sight when you approach down the windy cliffs side road and villages. Surrounding countryside present an ideal rural scene that could easily charm you into staying longer than intended.
Best time to visit Mai Chau
In general, Mai Chai’s climate is quite good around the year, but not every weather is good for cycling or hiking. Mai Chau could be cold in winter, and rainy in wet season. In December, January or February are the coldest months. In the rainy and cold days, it’s not ideal for outdoor activities, but do not worry when you go to there at winter!
How to get there
By bus: From Hanoi, you can catch bus directly from My Dinh bus station to Mai Chau (drop off in town). You can catch bus at 6 am, 7:30am, 14:00 or 14:30 with around 2 USD ticket fee. The journey takes around 4 hours.
If you would like to travel by motorbike, you should drive from Hanoi to Mai Chau. It has some stunning stretches, cruising through villages and along mountain roads with views over the surrounding paddy fields and limestone karst scenery. It takes around 5 hours to travel by bike.
